Absolute Paradise Landscaping’s Environmental Support

RESPONSIBLE OUTDOOR WATER USE IS THE MOST EFFECTIVE WAY TO CONSERVE WATER, SINCE 70% OF THE WATER USED IN OUR COMMUNITY IS FOR MAINTAINING LANDSCAPES!

In support of the Southern Nevada Water Authority’s drought plan, Absolute Paradise Landscaping is taking steps to educate customers about the drought situation, and encouraging support from Las Vegas community members to replace their water-thirsty landscapes with water -smart plants, synthetic lawns and greens. We hope you will join us in our efforts, to help preserve our most valuable resource water. Imagine the amount of water that could be spared if even a portion of homeowners did not water their lawns?

Our company works actively with the Las Vegas community to bolster conservation efforts in the face of our ongoing drought. The SNWA declared a Drought Alert in 2004. The ten year drought has had a severe impact on Lake Mead, which supplies the majority of the water used in the Las Vegas Valley. The lake is currently down to more than 55 percent of its capacity, and is at its lowest point since 1968. If lake levels continue to decline, Southern Nevada could soon face a Drought Emergency. Below-average snowfall in the Rocky Mountains continues to be the key cause of the drought. Runoff from the mountains feeds the Colorado River, which fills Lake Mead. It will take several years of above-average runoff from the Rockies to significantly raise Lake Mead's water levels.

So far, from the joint efforts of companies like ours, community water use has dropped by nearly 17.5 billion gallons a year, since the inception of the SNWA's Water Smart Landscapes Rebate Program in 1999. This yearly water savings would fill a football field sized container, reaching 6.6 miles high. To reduce water use, Las Vegas residents and businesses have converted more than 86 million square feet of natural grass to water-smart landscaping. The amount of grass replaced would be equivalent to rolling an 18-inch wide strip of sod from Las Vegas to New York City and back! Removing even one square foot of grass saves an average of 55 gallons of water a year! Southern Nevada Water Authority's General Manager, Pat Mulroy, said that community response is clearly making a difference.

Beginning January 2008, the Water Smart Landscapes Rebate Program now offers a $1.50 per square foot rebate, to those who trade their natural grass for synthetic products, and water-efficient landscapes!
We would be pleased to assist you in applying for this beneficial rebate, or feel free to contact the SNWA directly to register for this valuable program.

In addition to preserving water, Absolute Paradise Landscaping supports other ecologically-friendly efforts. Unlike natural grass, our lawns require no environmentally harmful pesticides or fertilizers. Using synthetic grass and putting greens virtually eliminates the pollution caused from the use of lawn mowers. When mowers cut natural grass, clippings are produced, which get discarded into land fills. These clippings contain methane gas, which when released into our atmosphere, contribute to global warming. The use of synthetic grass eliminates these issues.

Absolute Paradise Landscaping works closely with homeowners associations and municipalities, supporting their efforts to embrace ecologically-friendly plants, natural-looking, synthetic landscaping alternatives, and help promote the installation of water saving hardscape surfaces to their residents.

The owners of Absolute Paradise Landscaping are constantly enamored by the beauty of Southern Nevada - the mountains, elegant landscapes, bright, everlasting sunshine, and crisp, clean air. Our desire to do our part to support the environment by making a significant effort to preserve our most precious natural resource, water, in an area of our country where it is most scarce, led us to the development of Absolute Paradise Landscaping, a company that could accomplish our mission.
